Maine Coon Apothecary is located just outside Barrie, Ontario, within the traditional territory of the Anishinaabek, including the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations of the Three Fires Confederacy, as well as the Ouendat and Haudenosaunee Peoples. These lands are also within the boundaries of the Williams Treaties and other historic agreements in the region.

As settlers on Turtle Island, we recognize that our ability to live, build our home, and grow Maine Coon Apothecary on this Land exists within colonial systems that continue to dispossess Indigenous Peoples and affect Indigenous sovereignty, community, and relationships with Land. We understand this recognition as creating responsibilities and requiring meaningful commitments. We believe acknowledgement must extend beyond words into reciprocity and action. We encourage our community to learn about and support Indigenous-led initiatives, businesses, artists, educators, and organizations, particularly those connected to the lands and communities around us.

You may consider learning about and supporting the Beausoleil First Nation Step-Up Scholarship Fund, which supports Indigenous youth pursuing education in our local area, as well as Water First, which works in partnership with Indigenous communities to provide education, paid training, and pathways to certification in drinking water and environmental water stewardship. Water First describes its work as community-partnered rather than Indigenous-led, so I would preserve that distinction on your website.

We remain responsible for listening, learning, examining our relationship to settler colonialism, and ensuring that the commitments we make are reflected in how we operate this business and care for animals.
